From Farm Wear to Street Wear

9 August 2005

John Pemberton, an AgriQuality Officer well known to local farmers as their TB testing man, will shortly trade his overalls in for tidy gear as he embarks on another election campaign for the Democrats for social credit.

John is Finance Spokesman and number two on the Democrats Party list.

He has worked in the Putaruru /Tokoroa area for 23 years, mainly involved in the Cattle TB Eradication Scheme. He also has a national role as a bio-security officer. His career spanning 32 years has provided him with many challenges and pleasures.

“The challenges I face in my career pale into insignificance when put up against the political challenges I’ve set myself,” he says.

“My political crusade, to make a few subtle changes to the financial system and to the ownership of that system, started in 1972 when I joined Social Credit. It continues to this day with our new name Democrats for social credit.” Pemberton says.

“This is my seventh time on the hustings. Each time I have strongly promoted and defended the co-operative principles of the Dairy Industry. It is these principles which have seen the industry survive both political and financial pressures, where others have wilted.”

John’s belief in the co-operative concept extends further than the dairy industry. This is demonstrated by his 23 years as a Director of a Credit Union. He is currently the Finance Director of Credit Union Waikato, a banking type co-operative which has 8 branches, including one in Tokoroa.

The core Democrats for social credit conviction is that whatever needs fixing, whether it be hideous pylons or child poverty, student debt or surgery waiting lists, tax cuts or power cuts, first and foremost the financial system must be adjusted.

“When we have democratic control of our money supply, only then can we solve these problems,” John explains. “Until then,” he warns, “the debts we stack up as a nation will continue to climb.”

The way John sees it,New Zealand needs Democrats for social credit now more than ever
